Shop fitouts
Electrical work planned around your opening date. We coordinate power, lighting and equipment requirements with the fitout team and site programme.
Local electricians · Clear advice · Ongoing support

What a fitout needs electrically
- Point of sale wiring, including power and data to each terminal, positioned so cables are not visible across a counter.
- Display and multimedia, including screens, panels and the supply behind them.
- Signage wiring, both internal and external, with switching arranged how you actually want it controlled.
- Multi-zone audio, so the back of house and the shop floor can run independently.
- Storefront and display lighting, aimed to show the product rather than just light the room.
- General power and lighting to the tenancy, with the distribution board arranged for the layout.
- Data and communications cabling, run and terminated alongside the power.
Lighting sells the product
Retail lighting is not about lux levels, it is about where the eye goes. The difference between a flat, evenly lit shop and one where the merchandise and the entry are deliberately lit is substantial, and it costs very little more at fitout stage because the fittings are going in either way.
We will give you advice on how to light the storefront and the displays rather than simply installing whatever is on the drawing. See our approach to lighting for the principles, which apply equally in retail.
Working to the opening date
- Early input on the drawingsBring us in while the layout is still on paper. Moving a point of sale position on a drawing is free. Moving it after the counter is built is not.
- Rough-in at the right momentCabling has to go in after the partitions are framed and before they are lined. Missing that window causes the most expensive delays in a fitout.
- Fit-off and commissioningFittings, outlets, data and signage terminated and tested once the finishes are done.
- Handover before you tradeTesting, certification and a walk-through, with everything working before the doors open rather than on the morning.
Centre tenancies have extra rules. If you are fitting out inside a shopping centre, the centre will have its own induction, insurance and after-hours requirements. We are used to working within those. See shopping centres.
Good to know
Your questions, answered.
Can you work from the shopfitter’s drawings?
Yes. Send them through and we will mark up the electrical scope and quote from them.
How early should we involve you?
As early as possible, ideally while the layout is still being drawn. That is when changes are cheap.
Can you work overnight to hit an opening date?
Yes, and in centre tenancies it is often the only option available.
Do you handle the compliance paperwork?
Yes. Testing and certification are provided as part of handover, which the centre or landlord will usually want to see.
