How the discount works
Eligible installations can create small-scale technology certificates (STCs). You can assign the right to create them to a participating agent in exchange for a discount on your installation.
The value is specific to the system and installation date. Ask for the equipment price, STC discount and any administration charges to be shown clearly.
What changed in 2026
Changes took effect on 1 May 2026. The calculation now applies different support rates across usable-capacity bands, and the STC factor reduces over time.
A larger battery does not receive the same level of support for every additional kilowatt hour. We calculate the applicable discount for the proposed installation rather than promising a fixed dollar saving.
What we check
Eligibility depends on the installation as well as the product. Before proceeding, we work through the current requirements for your property.
- The approved battery model and eligible capacity
- Connection to new or existing solar
- Accredited installation and required documentation
- Previous battery support at the property
- Relevant network and VPP-capability requirements
Size the battery for the job
A discount is one part of the decision. We also consider your evening usage, available solar surplus, installation space, backup priorities and budget.
If you are considering finance, compare the repayments and total cost with realistic savings estimates. Credit approval is separate from rebate eligibility.

Can I add a battery to existing solar?
An eligible battery may be added to an existing solar installation. We first check the equipment, connection arrangement and current program requirements.
Is there a fixed $7,000 rebate?
No. The discount varies with eligible usable capacity, the applicable STC factor, certificate value and charges. Your written quote should show the actual amount.
Do I have to join a virtual power plant?
The federal program has VPP-capability requirements for grid-connected systems, but joining a VPP is a separate choice. Check any additional offer or finance conditions before signing.
